Get Your Feet Wet

Get Your Feet Wet

"The beach is never closed."

- Fanta Caroline Bah (Carl's six-year-old grandaughter)

This may seem like an obvious statement, and, of course, it is.  But it is also a simple and profound reminder that not everything is subject to “business hours.”

For instance, are great opportunities restricted by an “opening” or “closing” time?

Is a new skill acquired only during “hours of operation”?

Does a time clock dictate when you can broaden your horizon or enhance your perspective on greatness?

No.

There are no time constraints on these things.  They’re always open.  The question is . . . are you ready to get your feet wet?

What Is Your Ripple Effect?

Posted on September 30, 2015

The other day, I overheard someone talking about the legacy he would leave behind after his death.  He wondered how he would be remembered by his family and friends.

After death, we will be remembered for how we lived our lives.  How we treated others.  How we contributed to the world around us.
But that legacy is being created now.  It is being shaped and formed by our day-to-day words and actions.

The way we are living our lives right now will have on an impact on others today and long after we're gone.  Our words and actions will ripple out into the world around us during life . . . and after.

What will your ripple effect be?

The Worst Day Ever?

Posted on August 31, 2015

Wisdom comes from many sources; it's up to us to recognize and embrace it.

The following poem is attributed to Chanie Gorkin, an 11th grader in Brooklyn, New York.   The poem originated as a school assignment in which students were asked to write about their worst day ever.

Here's what Chanie wrote:

Today was the absolute worst day ever
And don’t try to convince me that
There’s something good in every day
Because, when you take a closer look,
This world is a pretty evil place.
Even if
Some goodness does shine through once in a while
Satisfaction and happiness don’t last.
And it’s not true that
It’s all in the mind and heart
Because
True happiness can be attained
Only if one’s surroundings are good
It’s not true that good exists
I’m sure you can agree that
The reality
Creates
My attitude
It’s all beyond my control
And you’ll never in a million years hear me say that
Today was a good day.

Now, read from the bottom of the poem to top to see the real meaning - and wisdom - of Chanie’s words.

Leaders Are Readers

Posted on July 1, 2015

Love what you do or don’t do it.”
-Mark Cuban

To be successful in any profession, one must be a continual learner.  One way to gain fresh knowledge is through reading.

Mark Cuban is said to read three hours every day.  He takes in information from various sources, converts it to knowledge and distills it into wisdom.   Then he takes action.  He acts on what he has learned
In the past month have you been exposed to a new idea?  If so, have you thought about how this new idea could be implemented in your life or work?
Fresh ideas enrich what you love to do.
