The Courage to Keep Swinging

The Courage to Keep Swinging

When Life throws a curveball, the only way to hit a homerun is to have the courage to keep swinging.

Life has a way of throwing curveballs.  Things happen that are not only unexpected, but painful, and they can feel like a game-changer.

What makes the difference between victory and defeat at these times?  Courage.

The courage to "keep swinging" through the unknown, the painful, the overwhelming, or the frightening will determine whether you are able rise above and beyond these unforeseen circumstances-even growing stronger and wiser in the process-or be defeated by them.

The curveballs of life are inevitable.  Do you have the courage to keep swinging?

The Fabric of Your Life

The Fabric of Your Life

"Possibility, Freedom, and Choice are woven into the fabric of our lives."

-Carl Hicks

Mindset is everything.

Individuals with a fixed mindset struggle with trying to envision a situation different from that which they are in.  Too often they accept their circumstances, rejecting the belief that they can learn, change, or grow.  In short, they settle for what they have and where they are.

Conversely, individuals with a growth mindset believe they can change their circumstances, learn different approaches, and grow to be what they were destined to be.

They initiate actions to change their circumstances. They embrace the possibilities they can visualize.  They recognize their freedom to change, and they make choices that are beneficial to them.

They don't settle for the status quo.

How about you?  Do you have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?

What is woven into the fabric of your life?

The Power of Failure

The Power of Failure

I failed my way to success.”

-Thomas Edison

Thomas Edison has been hailed as America’s greatest inventor.  While he’s best known for inventing the electric light bulb, Edison also holds over one thousand US patents, and many more around the world.  His life’s work has had a profound effect on the world as we now know it.

For all his success, however, Edison knew what it was like to fail.  In fact, his failed attempts at the light bulb have become almost as legendary as his ultimate success. It took Edison 999 attempts before he got it right.

Edison learned from his failures and used each to move toward success. In other words, it wasn’t the 999 times that didn't work that defined his journey, but the one that finally did.

It is only when we use failure as a learning opportunity that we move one step closer toward success.

Have you harnessed the power of failure?

The Power of Perseverance

The Power of Perseverance

“Difficulties mastered are opportunities won.”

–Winston Churchill

Sergio Garcia’s journey to victory began in 1999, when he first captivated golf fans at the PGA Championship.  For eighteen years, however, he encountered one disappointment after another, coming close to a win but never quite realizing the dream. He didn’t give up.  On Sunday, April 9, 2017, on his 74th attempt at a major golf title, Sergio Garcia won the Masters.

Sergio was, of course, elated with his win, as were his fellow golfers and devoted fans.  Everyone was happy for him.  Not just for the win, but for his sheer determination to accomplish his goal.

Perseverance: to steadfastly stay the course in the pursuit of a goal, task, dream, or journey, regardless of the difficulties, distractions, or obstacles faced, or the frustration and discouragement experienced.

Garcia persevered through hardship and frustration, loss and disappointment.  He never stopped trying. Sergio Garcia is a true champion, not because he won the Masters, but because he never gave up on his dream.

Do you have the perseverance of a champion?
